Hey... looking for advice for socials? We got you.

how has social media changed small business?

Social media has completely changed the game for marketing, not even just for small businesses.

What are some of the main features of social media?

  • Free (affordable marketing option)
  • Accessible to anyone (unlimited customer base)
  • Ability to connect directly (customer engagement)
  • Opportunity for new interactions (increasing visibility)
  • Content insights (customer data)

Social media empowers small businesses; it allows you to amplify your voice and thrive in an increasingly connected world.

how can social media help a business grow?

So… how can social media help grow your business? Unlike any other marketing platform, the ‘virality’ aspect is probably what’s most appealing to small business owners. A post or video that goes viral overnight leads to brand awareness that leads to hundreds of purchases- who wouldn’t want that?!

While this doesn’t happen to everyone, it’s always a small possibility. There are other more important (and attainable) aspects of social media that can help a small business grow.

Email marketing used to be the main way of getting directly in contact with your customers. However, with algorithms and ‘for you’ pages, your content could end up in front of a future client who hasn’t opted into your content and may not have even heard of you through social media platforms!

P.S.-

The biggest piece of advice we have in regard to how social media can help small businesses grow is just to start posting.

The only way you can even find out is this is a viable, helpful marketing avenue to pursue is to actually follow through with it! Post content your audience with engage with, develop a cadence of nurture vs. sell, and hop on a trend just for the fun of it! Just like you wouldn’t dump tons of money into an advertising campaign that you did no research and prep for, you shouldn’t give this a post online and claim it didn’t work.

advantages of social media for small businesses

Social media hits all bases of the marketing funnel, from top-of-funnel brand awareness to middle-of-funnel following and content engagement to bottom-of-funnel direct messaging and even purchases. The variety of opportunities is one of the main benefits of social media for small businesses!

How small businesses benefit from social media depends on how willing you as the small business owner are to take advantage of the platforms. Not every business will thrive on every platform, and that’s okay! But if you’re willing to get in there, create, (and hopefully have fun with it), you’ll be able to reap the benefits of using social media for small businesses.

tips for small business social media

If you’re thinking to yourself, “I need help with social media marketing”, here are a few tips we utilize in our social media marketing our small business:

  • View social media as an opportunity to connect with your ideal audience, not as another thing to mark off your checklist. This will pave the way for the creativity to flow!
  • Start off with the basics. Introduce yourself, share what your business does, and explain what makes you different and why they should want to work with/buy from you!
  • Figure out a way to create a sustainable social media schedule. If scheduling out the next month’s worth of content to a T works for you, then get to planning! If you’re more of an on-the-fly type poster, go with it! Make social media work for you, not the other way around.
  • Keep a running note of content ideas you think of for your business. They can seem random or non-applicable at the time, but don’t write any ideas off. Especially for turning content into series- you never know what might work!
  • When in doubt- use the “Recycle Method”. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. What started out as one video on one platform can turn into a variety of content forms that fall into sub-topics that can be posted on a variety of platforms.
