With social media especially, there’s so much opportunity. From specifically what trends to participate in to the general what to post when on where, it raises the philosophical question ‘What are the benefits of social media marketing for small businesses?’

Totally valid question! You want to make sure there even are benefits to marketing your small business through social marketing before you dedicate time and resources to this avenue for your company. So we’re here to offer some social media advice for small businesses!

The only way you can even find out is this is a viable, helpful marketing avenue to pursue is to actually follow through with it! Post content your audience with engage with, develop a cadence of nurture vs. sell, and hop on a trend just for the fun of it! Just like you wouldn’t dump tons of money into an advertising campaign that you did no research and prep for, you shouldn’t give this a post online and claim it didn’t work.

  • View social media as an opportunity to connect with your ideal audience, not as another thing to mark off your checklist. This will pave the way for the creativity to flow!
  • Start off with the basics. Introduce yourself, share what your business does, and explain what makes you different and why they should want to work with/buy from you! 
  • Figure out a way to create a sustainable social media schedule. If scheduling out the next month’s worth of content to a T works for you, then get to planning! If you’re more of an on-the-fly type poster, go with it! Make social media work for you, not the other way around.
  • Keep a running note of content ideas you think of for your business. They can seem random or non-applicable at the time, but don’t write any ideas off. Especially for turning content into series- you never know what might work!
  • When in doubt- use the “Recycle Method”. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. What started out as one video on one platform can turn into a variety of content forms that fall into sub-topics that can be posted on a variety of platforms.
