Why Documenting Your Life Matters

Why you should always document things

3 years ago ➡️ Present

Scrolling through Snapchat and seeing the ‘Flashback’ memories has brought a wave of nostalgia and pride, which are words I wouldn’t usually use to describe Snapchat memories. (You all know the dog filter selfies I’m talking about…lol) It was sent to one of my best friends, Madison Marten, after a few cocktails at dinner and a long day at the beach. I was an excited young woman with a dream and no idea how it would actually manifest itself into my life today.

My takeaways from an innocent morning memory tap-through?

  1. Always document your ideas, dreams, and aspirations. (Even if the main reason is for vain purposes, you just never know!) Write them down, take pictures, and make a point to reflect back on them every once in a while.
  2. If you talk about ‘it’ enough, you’ll find ways to make ‘it’ happen. Keep affirming the positive narratives in your head and you’ll eventually find ways to confirm them- accident or not.
  3. Starting a business with your best friend is, for lack of a better term, freaking awesome. I’ve never had so much fun, laughter, joy, (and albeit, strings of nervous breakdowns) at work. We may be the exception to the ‘Never work with your best friend’ rule, but it’s been an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything.
  4. Do it. Take the risk. Start the business. As 2 young women, fresh out of college, starting their own business, we had plenty of people pushing towards a ‘safer’ route- you know, the one with stable income and benefits. We’ve been able to sacrifice and work hard to make our dream a reality, and we want to encourage others to do it too.
  5. I’m so incredibly grateful for where we’re at today! The people in both our lives have pushed Madison Marten and I to where we are with jo + leigh marketing. Thank you to everyone who’s supported us along the way, we can’t wait to see where our journey continues to take us next!
